As hiring begins, WMass officials tour construction of CRRC MA subway car plant in East Springfield
Dianguo Cui, chairman of CRRC, a company based in China and the world’s largest rail car maker, received a warm welcome on his first visit to Springfield on Thursday to tour the site of a planned $95 million factory.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, who was among city and CRRC officials touring the 40-acre former Westinghouse property in East Springfield, told Cui through an interpreter that the city wishes him and his company continued success as “continued success for you is continued success for us.”

Springfield’s CRRC MA Honored; Rail Car Production Begins Next Month
The new CRRC MA rail car manufacturing complex in East Springfield is the state’s engineering accomplishment of the year, according to the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts.
The group honored CRRC at its annual meeting Wednesday.
That honor comes as CRRC nears the start of production. The Chinese-owned company will start building new cars for the MBTA Orange Line in April.
Vendors at Diversity Fair Get Peek Inside Springfield’s CRRC factory, Which Starts MBTA Orange Line Car Production Next Month
The CRRC MA rail car manufacturing company drew a large, diverse crowd of vendors and suppliers to its $95 million factory Thursday to discuss work opportunities there and with other participating firms.
CRRC hosted the outreach event for minority- and women-owned businesses at its Page Boulevard factory, the final such event before production begins, officials said. The Chinese-owned company will start building new cars for the MBTA Orange Line in April at the 204,000 square-foot factory floor.
First Orange Line T Car Shells Arrive at CRRC Factory in Springfield
The first four uncompleted shells for MBTA Orange Line subway cars arrived at the CRRC MA plant in East Springfield this week.
Workers there are unpacking them and getting ready to begin assembly work, said spokeswoman Lydia Rivera. She expects work on completing the cars to begin in earnest sometime in the next month or so.
The cars arrived by truck in white wrapping after being shipped from China to the port of Philadelphia, Rivera said.
